Rumor: TFC to trial Jorge Andrade
January 24, 2010, 10:40 PM

According to Jerry Dobson’s (Sportsnet) Twitter:

I don’t like rumours but this one sounds solid. Jorge Andrade from Portugal on trial with TFC this year. Stay tuned. -Dobson

Andrade would be a nice pickup at centre-back if he can overcome his knee problems. According to his Wiki, he has had 4 left knee surgery’s in as many years.

On 8 April 2009, Juventus and Andrade reached an agreement, and the player’s remaining contract was canceled, leaving him free to find another club. After being released from Juventus, he went on trial to Málaga, but he was not given a contract and was again free to search a new club.

TFC / Houston Trade Coming?
April 14, 2009, 4:27 PM
Filed under: Houston Dynamo, Rumor, Trade

Nothing’s official yet, but keep your eyes on what’s going on in Toronto, because you may in the coming days hear of a trade for either someone on their roster, allocation money, or even an uncharacteristic draft pick. Why? Check this out:

From Globe & Mail:

Toronto FC have taken steps to bolster their back four by offering a trial to Ecuador national team defender Jose Luis Perlaza. The 27-year-old was in his country’s squad for the 2006 World Cup, but didn’t see any playing time in Germany. Perlaza was recently released by Ecuadorean club Centro Deportivo Olmedo. TFC will have to act fast if they want to keep him, as the Major League Soccer transfer window closes tomorrow.

Yes, this is the same Jose Luis Perlaza that Dynamoplanet said was deemed a discovery option by the Houston Dynamo alongside Canadian “will I ever sign” Andrew Hainault. Here’s that original DP article.

Now, that means that if Toronto likes Perlaza, they’re going to have to give up something to the Dynamo in return. The question then becomes “what would the Dynamo ask for?”…

Carver-to-Newcastle resurfaces
April 1, 2009, 2:40 PM
Filed under: John Carver, Rumor, Toronto FC

Alan Shearer is the new Newcastle manager. So why should you care if you’re an MLS fan? If you are a Toronto FC fan you should care quite a bit. Why? Well, John Carver and Alan Shearer are close, very close, and Carver has always been a candidate to join Shearer if and when he became Newcastle manager.

TFC fans can relax for now. If Carver were to go to Newcastle it would only be no sooner than next season and only if Newcastle avoids relegation. That means a summer-time decision for Carver. What is interesting is that Toronto now boasts a talented and deep team that could do some big things this year, and that just might be enough to keep Carver in Canada.

Christanval not coming

Previously, reported Phillipe Christanval was with the team in Charleston, SC.

According to sources, witnesses thought they saw Christanval at the Charleston airport Friday night with the team upon arrival, but it now appears that it was one of TFC’s new Gambian players.

This may be good news for TFC fans, as Christanval has had a string of injury trouble over the past 2 seasons only playing in 17 games in 24 months.

The Insider has learned that FC Dallas is planning to trade Canadian midfielder Adrian Serioux to Toronto for a draft pick and allocation money. Serioux, 29, began his pro career in Toronto with the A-League’s Lynx 10 years ago. He started 24 league games for FCD last year and had four assists, second best on the club.

Use your own discretion on this one. The Adrian Serioux rumour has resurfaced. Someone has a source who tells them that a Canadian centre half who is already playing in MLS will be with us within the next two weeks. It turns out the Canadian in question is indeed Adrian Serioux. Click here for the thread on the Red Patch Boys forum. I suppose only Mo knows!

Toronto to host 2009 MLS Cup?
February 11, 2009, 1:03 PM
Filed under: MLS Cup, Rumor, Toronto FC

The league usually announces the site of MLS Cup about a year in advance, but the 2009 process is taking much more longer than usual. Why? From what I am hearing, the day of the week and the TV window are at the root of the discussions. All 13 MLS Cups have been held on a Sunday afternoon and this year’s final was tentatively scheduled for early in the day (Eastern time) on a Sunday.

But league officials are exploring the possibility of playing this season’s MLS Cup on a Saturday evening, which would allow Seattle to be seriously considered. The other venues mentioned to me were Toronto, Chicago and Foxborough. Of those four, however, only Chicago has a natural grass surface and all four might have late-November weather issues.

Back to the reason why we exist. To bring you any and all rumors that come across our path.

This one fell into our mailbag moments ago:

Please keep my name anonymous but I can tell you that Toronto FC is close to signing their DP and they are finishing up the final details of the contract. He should be announced before opening day. My hunch is that they’re looking to make an announcement within two weeks. Keep up the good work, and don’t watch the haters.

It has been rumored that the DP Toronto is looking to sign is Pablo Vitti from Independiente.
