When you look at the day-to-day calendar covering most of one entire wall in John Carver’s expansive office, it hits home how much preparation goes into the job. It’s all laid out from Feb. 2nd when camp opens in Toronto right through the season opener in Kansas City in March.

Not a single detail is overlooked. The only thing missing is the names of all the players.

There’s a growing sense TFC is not done yet. Whether that means trading draft choices for proven players, or simply signing someone from overseas straight up remains to be seen. But make no mistake: Carver’s holiday time spent in England over Christmas was very much a working vacation. It’s unclear how successful it might turn out to be.

Let’s just say a lot more players over there, and some pretty good ones at that, are aware of and intrigued by what MLS is all about.

After a year spent learning the crazy nuances of this league, Carver admits to making some mistakes and guarantees he’s got a better handle on things for his second year in charge. No more touchline tirades aimed at the officials. That’s hard to imagine. More likely there’ll be fewer of them with perhaps less intensity. In other words, a Level 2 tornado instead of a monster Level 5.

I’m also hearing, not from Carver though, that the Dwayne De Rosario situation is just about wrapped up. You can see what Carver did say about him on Soccercentral at noon Saturday.

Then it’s off to the player combine and college draft next week. Seven days from now there will be more pieces in place.
